RACE RECAP: 2022 Race No. 148 – October 30, 2022 Xfinity 500 – NASCAR Cup Series – Martinsville Speedway

MARTINSVILLE, Va. – Christopher Bell won, in a “must-win” situation, Sunday’s Xfinity 500 NASCAR Cup Series Race at Martinsville Speedway. It was the second time in the 2022 NASCAR Playoffs that Bell won the final race of a round to advance, this time to the Championship Race.

Bell was the dominant car at the end of the 500-lap race, he led 150 of the final 177 circuits. Pit strategy put Chase Briscoe – also in a must-win situation – at the point for the final run to the checkered flag. Bell caught him and made the final pass with five laps remaining to get the victory, his third of the season.

While Bell was crossing the finish line, 10th-running Ross Chastain pulled a video game move entering the final corner full throttle with his car alongside the wall. He road the wall wide-open around the outside and passed all the way to fifth, enough to get himself into the Championship Four.

Kyle Larson finished second with Ryan Blaney third. Bell, Chastain, Joey Logano and Chase Elliott will race for the NASCAR Cup Series Championship Sunday in Phoenix.
