RACE RECAP: 2022 Race No. 132 – October 1, 2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series and Camping World Truck Series – Talladega Superspeedway

TALLADEGA, Ala. – A.J. Allmendinger scored his elusive first superspeedway victory Saturday in the Sparks 300 NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Talladega Superspeedway. Earlier in the day, Matt DiBenedetto earned his career-first national series victory in the Chevy Silverado 250 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race.

Allmendinger put himself in the second spot following the final green-flag pitstop of the race as the field rode single-file as laps ticked away in the 113 lap affair. Sam Mayer was the first to jump out line, which started the jockeying for position over the final few laps.

Allmendinger got a run on Mayer over the final few feet of the race and scored the victory by about three feet (.015-second). It was his fourth win of the season. Mayer was second with Landon Cassill, who pushed Allmendinger to the winning move.

The final sprint to the finish line in the 88-lap Truck Series race had trucks start crashing into the trioval. As the leaders scrambled to get to the finish line, the caution flag flew freezing the field. At the point of the caution, NASCAR determined the DiBenedetto was ahead at that point giving him the victory.

Ben Rhodes, who was bounding off the DiBenedetto truck finished second with local racer Brett Holmes third.
