RACE RECAP: 2022 Race No. 126 – September 16, 2022 NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Racing Series – Wake County Speedway

RALEIGH, N.C. – Clay Jones saved the best for last to win the 60-lap LeithCars.com Late Model Stock feature Friday night at Wake County Speedway. The win, his eighth of the season not only locked up the track championship but also likely secured him the NASCAR North Carolina State Championship.

Tyler Matthews jumped from the second starting spot into the lead at the drop of the green with Daniel Vuncannon and Jones in pursuit. Jones only needed a third-place finish to secure the potential state championship and rode the first half of the race in that spot.

Midway through he was able to get a run inside of Vuncannon to take the second spot, all while Matthews held a comfortable lead. However in the last ten laps Jones picked up the pace; on lap 58 he was able to get inside the leader into turn three. They ran side-by-side until the exit of turn two on the final lap when Jones was able to secure the spot on the win.

Matthews and Vuncannon finished second and third respectively.

Other winners were: Jordan Black in Legends, Josh Lowe in Bandolers, Chance Carpenter in Chargers, Brandon Clements in Mini Stock, Kevin Jeffreys in Mod 4 and Sammy Pacitti in Bobmbers.
