RACE RECAP: 2022 Race No. 114: August 26, 2022 Wawa 250 – NASCAR Xfinity Series – Daytona International Speedway

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Jeremy Clements won a wild Wawa 250 NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Daytona International Speedway Friday. It was his second career series victory.

Noah Gragson set the early pace in the 100-lap race and had the dominant car leading 52 of the first 96 laps. However, his efforts along with many others got caught up in a bevy of crashes that took the race into triple overtime.

On that third overtime start, on lap 117, leader Austin Hill’s car failed to come up to speed with an electrical issue; Clements started alongside and got the advantage. As the field raced under the white flag, at which point the race would become complete, another crash slowed things with Clements in front.

Timmy Hill earned his career-best finish with a second and A.J. Allmendinger rallied back from a crash to finish third.

The win actually occurred at 1:30 a.m. on August 27th, the same day Clements won at Road America back in 2017. With the win, he also has locked himself into the NASCAR Xfinity Series Playoffs.
