RACE RECAP: 2022 Race No. 101 – August 7, 2022 NASCAR Cup Series – Firekeeper Casino 400 – Michigan International Speedway

BROOKLYN, Mich. – Kevin Harvick ended a 65-race winless streak Sunday with the victory in the Firekeeper Casino 400 NASCAR Cup Series race at Michigan International Speedway. It was his sixth career win, and fifth in the last seven races at the track.

A perfectly executed pit stop on lap 158 where Harvick was able to stay on the lead lap, followed a lap later by a caution; gave the veteran and lead and control of the race. The restart on lap 166 after that caution allowed Harvick to get the upper hand on Bubba Wallace and he cruised to the win.

The win was Harvick’s 59th-career series victory, 10th-most all time. I likely locked him into the series playoffs with only three races remaining.

Wallace held on to finish second with Denny Hamlin rallying back from a late pit road penalty to finish third.
