RACE RECAP: 2022 Race No. 95: July 24, 2022 NASCAR Cup Series – Pocono Raceway
LONG POND, Pa. – Chase Elliott won his fourth NASCAR Cup Series race of the season in Sunday’s M&M’s Fan Appreciation 500 at Pocono Raceway. In a unique set of circumstances, Elliott won the race without leading a lap.
Denny Hamlin raced to the apparent victory at the end of the 160-lap race, he was followed by Kyle Busch, then Elliott. However, in post-race NASCAR inspection both Joe Gibbs Racing cars – Hamlin and Busch – were found to have modifications on the front of their cars and disqualified.
Elliott started third in the race and struggled through much of the first half of the race. Over the second half, he was able to gain positions to be the third driver across the finish line.
The win continues the hot streak for Elliott who has now finished first or second in the past five races. Tyler Reddick finished second with Daniel Suarez third.
