2022 Race No. 83 – June 29, 2022 SMART Modifieds/Late Model Stocks – Caraway Speedway
SOPHIA, N.C. -- Dylan Ward picked up his second consecutive victory in the 99-lap Rusty Harpe Memorial late model stock feature at Caraway Speedway. In the companion Revolutionary 99 SMART Modified Race it was Joey Coulter grabbing the win.
Donnie Apple jumped into the early lead in the late model stock feature and set the pace until a tangle with lapped traffic on lap 29 caused damage to his car. That turned the top spot over to Ward who fended off challenges from his brother Trevor Ward and Heath Causey throughout the balance. Dylan Ward was up to the challenge and scored the win over Causey and Coy Beard.
The caution-and-red-flag-filled SMART Modified feature has Jonathan Brown and Caleb Heady as early race leaders. A lap 56 caution sent most of the leaders to pit road for stops, with Brandon Ward winning the race off pit road.
Ward restarted fourth but made quick work of the cars on older tires and was in the lead by turn two once back racing. He led until lap 97 when his car ran out of fuel. Coulter was in front on lap 98 when after more cars running out of fuel and a big crash the race was called complete. Heady and Dennis Holdren completed the podium.
Paul Hartwig III won the 71-lap 602 Modified Feature.
