2022 Race No. 54: May 8, 2022 NASCAR Cup Series – Goodyear 400 – Darlington Raceway

Joey Logano ended a 40-race winless streak Sunday in the Goodyear 400 NASCAR Cup Series race at Darlington Raceway. It was his 28th career victory and marks 11 consecutive seasons where he has scored a series win.

Logano started on the pole position and raced most of the day at the front of the field. He led on eight different occasions for a total of 107 of the 293 laps. As the laps wound down, he found himself second to William Byron, who was looking for his series-high third victory of the year.

Logano closed dramatically over the final ten laps and was able to get to Byron’s back bumper in turn three coming to the white flag. The bump and run worked for Logano as he races past into the lead, for Bryon not so much as he got into the wall and limped home to a 13th-place finish.

Logano crossed the line .775 seconds ahead of Tyler Reddick to score his first win at Darlington. Justin Haley earned his first top-10 of the season finishing third.
