2022 Race No. 35: Sunday, April 10, 2022 SMART Modifieds – Franklin County Speedway

Jonathan Brown drove his SS Racing Team Modified to the win in the Kenny Minter Classic 110 at Franklin County Speedway. It was his first series win of the season and third career series win.

Brown was among a number of drivers who led early, but as tends to be the case on older racetracks tires and pitting strategy are important. A restart on lap 71 gave Brown, who had just pitted and had fresh tires, the chance he needed to race past Bobby Labonte into the lead. From there he had to fend of challenges first from Brandon Ward and then Jeremy Gerstner to get the win.

At the line it was Brown, over Gerstner with Bobby Measmer having a strong third place finish.

Franklin County Speedway is a three-eighths mile paved speedway in Callaway, Virginia. The track was built as a dirt track in the mid-to-late 1960s and was paved in 1969. That 53-year-old pavement is still the surface and the track is a step back in time in so many ways. Personally, it was my 226th track that I have attended a race at.
