2022 Race No. 15 – Saturday, March 5, 2022 SMART Modifieds/NASCAR Late Model Stocks – Florence Motor Speedway, Florence, S. C.
Saturday afternoon at Florence Motor Speedway was the 2022 Season Opener for the SMART Modified Tour and the weekly NASCAR Late Model Stock Racing. The pits were full, the crowd was solid and the weather was beautiful making it a wonderful afternoon.
The Low Country 99 drew a field of 23 SMART Modified racers. Tire management is always the key to success at Florence; multiple cautions and pit stops shuffled things throughout the race. Matt Hirschman took charge over the second half and held off constant pressure from Kaleb Heady for the win. Heady was second and Brandon Ward charged forward after a late race pitstop to finish third.
The 60 lap NASCAR late model stock feature started with Matt Cox setting the early pace. Midway through Casey Kelly took command and went on for the win. Kade Brown was the star of the second half racing forward to a second place run with Cox settling for third. The race ran from green flag to checkered flag caution free.
